Not really for me tbh. I like a good political historical n9vel but I find it falls flat in every other category besides historical. The romance is to literal and rather boring and there's almost too much exposition and way too much focus on characters that aren't the mc. No offense as they're interesting to read about, but I simply don't care about the family dynamics of these other families because they don't relate to the mc that much.
Best. I like it well enough. I especially love Fang Shaoxin!!!
Very “literary “ rebirth novel but I really enjoyed reading all the thoughts of side characters. Some regret,some move on and others just paddle in place. Romance pretty spicy but well balanced. I confess, I never really liked the ML but he accomplished a lot.
Read upto 153 ch. Story is really good. Mc was a successful business woman who likes to sleep with guys but doesn't want to take responsibility. Ml is a world famous literati, a scholar. MC's dead husband was the god of war defended the country from invasion for a decade or more. Mc after transmigration didn't get the memories of the original. She took care of the family mess and the three children and general's concubine son before looking for targets to sleep. She chose Ml. Ml and Mc are same type of people who with high EQ and IQ, act kind and friendly to everyone and hiding their true intention behind the smile. So she teases him. But realised that he was a novice in this area and tried to hide when he fell in love with her. The story becomes a battle of wits and teases to remove each other secrets and get what they want, heart and body?. But there is a problem. Ml killed the general using a conspiracy. He doubted general's loyalty and investigated but his evidences were burned away. But it confirmed his suspicion. So with the support of the emperor, he killed general. But ml's father and eldest princess other two who knows it, doesn't fully believe in it. Ml and his father had a fall out. Now he and the princess hater the murderer's cruelty to not even let go of the victim's wife. They believe that ml is a hypocritical monster. But the general survived and plotting something while hiding in enemies country. I am hesitant to call the general villain because author doesn't portray him like that. Mc, ml and general are good but ruthless people. Ml is loyal towards the country, mc towards herself and general seems to be towards the emperor, not the current one but the last. Because before his death the old emperor announced his 5 yr old son born from queen to be his successor. Now that child is living as general's concubine son. There are still many secrets to explore in the story and the true motives of everyone has to be confirmed yet. There is no harem or reverse harem. General seems to like mc as well but he is like Thanos. His mission is more important
i am 50 chapters in and am getting little interest or care from the FL towards her children. Her step-son gets a lot of her care. Her son, a little bit of her care and affection, and her daughters, well she cares more for her maids than her daughters. When does she actually "care" about her daughters?
Elder sister is mature and stable so MC doesn't need to take care of her much but younger sister has some issues towards her mother which mc will find out and then clarify it. Mc doesn't want to stay as a general' widow living the previous life of original. She isn't a person to stay behind the door. Later Mc will also find a good master for the girls after her son becomes a student of Ml and concubine son join an academy
She focuses on her step son more because she suspects his nature and probing him but she also appreciates his talent and sympathies with his situation being a lame and as step son
I really do not like how the FL, who is portrayed as a very careful woman, suddenly keeps the "skin demon" company when they meet and even flirts with him. The worse thing in a story is to have your character suddenly act out of character just to achieve a certain plotpoint.
i think i am going to give up on this. I thought i was getting into a story a woman transmigrating into the past and finding herself a mother. She has a stepson, a 10 year old daughter, a 7 year old daughter and a 5 year old son. She only pays attention to the step-son and 5 year old son & the stepson wants her in a non-motherly way. The 5 year old son is the only parent/child relationship in the story so far (50 chapters in). The FL has little interaction or even interest in interacting with her daughters.
The story is obviously not about a woman who is finding her maternal self after transmigrating. The focus is more on her coming to terms with her own identity and remaining herself despite the change in her circumstances. The romance, too, is very literary in its expression.
